What if…?

I came across an article on MSNBC last night that spoke of some controversy surrounding a new translation of the Bible.  Without getting into the specifics of that, what most shocked me was the comments section after the story.  It seems that 90% of the respondents were not just speaking about the translation issue, but vehemently trashing what they saw as the ridiculous idea of Christianity.

These people were seriously on the attack.  One writer questioned how we could worship a supposed God of love, yet this same God would let His son die.  How was that love?  The attacks were numerous and varied.  It gave me cause to sit and reflect.

Humans will never be able to fully comprehend, with our sinful hearts, just how immense God’s love is that he DID send his son to be our atoning sacrifice.  I agree that this is the most illogical premise you could hitch your wagon to.  But when logic is defied, we must rely on faith!  Only in faith does this make.  I’m not sure God is as worried about winning our minds as He is our hearts!

So now my questions to all those people in the world who would rather spend their days trying to reason out why Christianity makes no sense!

   What if I’m right!

What if there is a God who created the universe in 7, 24-hour days?  What if this same God watched His prize creation fall into sin and in so doing, separated themselves from Him?  And what if His love for that same creation was so immense that He already had a plan in place to restore that relationship?  A plan that required His son, our dear Savior Jesus Christ, to come to earth as a man (yet still true God), and live the perfect life each of us has failed to live.  And through Jesus life and the subsequent suffering and death and resurrection, he restored our relationship with our heavenly Father.

What if all of that really happened?  Are you willing to take the chance of being cast away from eternal life, life in paradise, with this loving God and spending eternity in the depths of Hell?

If I’m wrong, you can have a good laugh at me one day and I’ll be none the worse off.  But if I’m right, all those who believed in the salvation plan of Jesus will spend eternity in heaven.  And those who didn’t….well, is the alternative isn’t pretty, as is noted many times in the Bible (see Revelation 20:15)

  Ask yourself…….what if?

First things first!

Where do my priorities lie?  We expect God to bless us and our lives.  We ask Him to lead us forward in our days.  But are we holding up our end of the bargain and are we meeting our obligation with and for Him?  We want Him to be the guiding force each day and want Him to call the plays for us.  But are we making room for Him in the huddle of our lives?

If our life was lived as a daily briefing to start each day, where would God be seated?  Would He be in a place of honor on the podium right beside us or would He sit lost in the crowd in the middle of the room?  Even worse, would He be relegated to a chair on the end of the last row?  Where does He sit in your briefing each day?

“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”  Indeed, but do I give Him that opportunity to make me strong each day.  How often I start pushing through the jungle of life and end up in a tangle of vines.  Jesus is there ready to go before me, machete in hand and clear my path.  Too often that tangling comes when we aren’t paying attention to the path He is clearing because He’s not clearing it the direction WE want to go.  I’m learning it’s ok to have earthly goals and desires, but we have to listen to Him to make sure they are consistent with His word and where He wants us to go.

Where will I put God in my life today?  I want Him to be my coffee buddy as I sit with His word in the quiet of the morning.  I want Him to be my right hand man as I walk through this day.   I want Him to guide every one of my steps, my thoughts, my decisions and all I do today.  And I can only do that if I allow Him to be at my side all day.
